Reflective Projections

Reflective Projections was a collaborative art installation by Kombo Chapfika & Martin Stewart which combined light, mirrors, smoke, video, and audio to explore the boundaries of audience and participant, reflection, distorted time and place. Upon entry participants walked through a hazy mirror-walled corridor covered in dozens of iridescent symbols. Inside the final projection space participants watch edited footage juxtaposed with delayed and filtered overlays of themselves as they moved through the installation. This late reveal of the viewer as part of the performance motivated varying responses. Most children performed more overtly as they watched how their image blended with the pre-composed imagery; some sterner adults stood near the fringes watching from just outside the camera's range.
